Executive Director Georgia Fintech Academy

Laura Gibson-Lamothe is the Executive Director of the Georgia Fintech Academy, headquartered atGeorgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, serving institutions across the UniversitySystem of Georgia. With over 18 years of experience in the banking, finance, and financial technologyindustries, she has held key roles at organizations such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Ally,Featurespace, and Protiviti. Throughout her career, Laura has successfully led high-impact projects,including co-brand credit card implementations and PCI compliance initiatives.

At the Georgia Fintech Academy, Laura is dedicated to bridging academia and industry, creatingmeaningful connections and innovative programs to equip students with the skills needed for success infintech. Under her leadership, the Academy has connected thousands of students with careeropportunities, expanding the impact of fintech education across Georgia’s 26 public universities. Laura ispassionate about cultivating the next generation offintech talent, with a focus on diversity, financialliteracy, and mentorship.In addition to her role at the Academy, Laura serves on the boards of the Technology Association ofGeorgia Fintech Society, PayTech Women, and LaAmistad. PayTech Women is committed to creating astronger and more diverse industry by empowering and investing in women in the payments and fintechsectors, while LaAmistad prepares Latino students and families for success through academic and life-enrichment programs. Laura is a recognized leader in fintech, frequently speaking at conferences ontopics related to mentorship, leadership, and opportunities for women in STEAM fields.Recently, Laura was named one of Georgia Trend’s 2024-2025 Most Influential Leaders and wasrecognized as a finalist for the 2024 Women in Technology (WIT) Women of the Year award.
